comments:
I learned to play fiddle from my mentor, Harold Luce of Chelsea, starting in 1991, the same year I joined the Ed Larkin Contra Dancers.
Like Harold, I consider myself a Yankee fiddler, which not only includes traditional standards, but also popular tunes of the 1920's through the 1950's, Tin Pan Alley, older country music, as well as contemporary tunes written by myself and others.
I've composed 100 fiddle tunes and I've self-published 2 books of some of them. I give lectures on the history of contra and square dancing, as well as fiddle contests, through the Speakers' Bureau of the Vermont Humanities Council (and the NH Humanities). I added a living history character on the life of Charles Ross Taggart (1871-1953), a traveling fiddler and entertainer who grew up in Topsham, VT.
I'm a Juried Artist, listed with the Vermont Arts Council.
